"Without Wax"

About the piece:
During the Renaissance the best sculptures would advertise their work as sine cera (Latin, meaning without wax)
It was very easy to chip off a nose, or finger at the finest points, and lesser artisans would then melt, mould and paint wax to match the marble as a replacement for the costly damage, which would of course fall away over time.. A statue that had no flaws and required no patching at the hand of a true master was hailed as 'sine cera' or a 'without wax.'
The phrase eventually came to mean anything honest or true and today we sign off sincerely. This piece – though not without fault – was just as genuine and heart felt a process of colour transition, finding form and light.
